Listen Up: Journey to a Downtown Turnaround

On June 6-7, 2019, the Mississippi Heritage Trust will host the Listen Up! Historic Preservation Conference in Grenada, presented by BankPlus. Using the amazing downtown renaissance that is happening in this historic city, the conference will focus on six essential elements in the journey to a “downtown turnaround.” Speakers will address the question “what does it take to breathe new life into old places?” through case studies of communities around the state including Tupelo, Bay Saint Louis and Greenwood. A panel of community leaders from Grenada will discuss recent successes and future goals.

The conference will be held at First & Green, one of Grenada’s great preservation success stories. Highlights of the conference include the 6th Annual Downtown 2.0 Tour, hosted by the Grenada Downtown Foundation, a reception in the courtyard of Molly’s Place, the Mississippi Heritage Trust Annual Membership Meeting and a picnic and games at the Lee Tartt Nature Preserve, hosted by the Friends of Chakchiuma Swamp.

Sponsors for the conference include First & Green, Grenada Downtown Innovation District, Grenada Tourism Commission, Janet Kinard, Lofts on the Square, Molly’s Place, Sabrina Howell and Square View.

Registration is $95 a person, $75 a person for participants of MHT’s Preservation Toolkit Workshops. You can view the full schedule and register for the conference at www.mississippiheritage.com.
