Meridian Police Station again under threat

former Meridian Police Station, Meridian, Lauderdale County. 1975-77 Chris Risher Sr. Archt.

Our old friend, the former Police Station in Meridian, is once again under threat as the city of Meridian has requested that the Mississippi Landmark designation from 2015 be revoked as part of proceeding with the demolition process. A change.org petition was created protesting the revoking of the Mississippi Landmark status for this property, but any opposition to the demolition would be best served by a letter responding to the request for public comment which closes at the end of December. This award winning building was designed by Chris Risher Sr., who is one of Mississippi’s best known homegrown modern architects, and a Meridian native.

Pictures and more information about the Meridian Police Station’s history can be found here.   https://misspreservation.com/2013/09/04/chris-rishers-meridian-police-station-under-threat/
