Preservation in Mississippi 
Demolished in the 1960s and replaced by Allen Hall, which in a previous post, I labelled as, “so bold, offensive, and unapologetic in its hatred for its occupants that it really should merit stringent preservation.” The Old MSU President’s Home was not bold or offensive and was a wonderful home for decades, so of course it had to be demolished in the name of progress. By the time of its demolition, it was the oldest remaining structure on campus, the last remnant of the late 19th Century campus.

In last Sunday’s Commercial Dispatch, Peter Ime’s PROGRESS magazine was included. Long Beach, California’s Mark Castleberry made the front page. He poses… holding plastic toy building blocks. The magazine’s theme is “A New Narrative for the New South.” There’s even a New Narrative Festival planned in April with music, booze, schmooze and praises of Old Abe and of General Grant and his brains. Obviously, Peter Imes is not familiar with H. L. Mencken’s take on U. S. Grant and his “brains.”
