Prentiss Club Fire Update

While the rest of us have been focusing on Tropical Storm Gordon this week (6 inches of good soaking rain in my Jackson rain gauge by late Wednesday), our friends at the Historic Natchez Foundation have been on site with the owners of the Prentiss Club in downtown Natchez, which suffered a major fire on Sunday morning. They posted a hopeful update with photos late yesterday.

  1. i know all of us at misspreservation as well as other good-architecture-lovers throughout the state are hopeful that this important building can be saved and returned to its place in the community.

another terrible fire, international importance, , occurred on the same day in rio de janerio, the almost complete destruction of the national museum of brazil, with its irreplaceable collections. if you really want to be depressed, surf the net for details and images.
