Since the Friday is a Gas series that was influenced by the TxDOT A Field Guide to Gas Stations in Texas was so popular I thought all the TxDOT histoirc preservation guidelines would be worth sharing. There are a considerable number of other survey Guidance Documents produced by the Texas Department of Transportation. Some topics such as adobe might be interesting, but are not likely to be applicable in Mississippi. On the other hand, guides such as A Field Guide to Industrial Properties or A Field Guide to Irrigation might yield some information that could be useful to us here in Mississippi. Take a gander below and share in the comments what you find interesting. I will definitely be reading some of these this weekend.

Texas had so many roadside parks, likely due to the large expanse of rural areas without easy access to a town. I recall many a trip from early childhood through adulthood and stopping at roadside areas for a brief rest, or to eat lunch. Many are gone, but a surprising number still survive including some built by the New Deal Administration.
