The results of a readers poll run by The Journal of South Mississippi Business have been published in the current June 2011 issue.
“Last month we asked our readers how Mississippi should observe the Civil War Sesquicentennial. Almost 77 percent of respondents said it is a major historical event and should be treated as such, while 15 percent said it should be down played. More than half (55 percent) said the State should promote our battlefields as a primary focus in our State’s tourism marketing and 45% said that the event should be observed primarily in schools for historical value.”
As battlefield sites are always under threat of development it is great to see business leaders understanding that promotion and preservation of these sites can be profitable to them.
