Although the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees voted to place the Meridian Police Station under consideration for Mississippi Landmark status in October 2014, it did not bring up the request to designate the Meridian Police Department as a Mississippi Landmark at its January 16, 2015 meeting. The next opportunity to vote on the request will be at the April 17, 2015 meeting. It is the general hope that the City of Meridian is coming to recognize the tremendous architectural value of the building and will use this time to consider options other than demolition. What a tremendous preservation victory it would be if we could attend the April 17 meeting with a plan in hand for a productive future for this modernist classic!
