Instead of doing my taxes, I spent time on April 14th organizing photos, and came across this one I took a year ago in Indianola: a “new” Harper’s manhole cover I had never noticed before. The concentric circles and the laconic “Harper” seem very modern, maybe post-World War II?
It’s been a while since we posted about manhole covers. If you weren’t around back in 2011, I first put up some pictures of Jackson’s very own Harper Foundry and Machine Company stamped on manhole covers in New Orleans. Later, we found Soule Steam Feed Works in Itta Bena and more Harpers, complete with a harp.
