Exhibition of the Architecture of Carl E. Matthes Sr.

Carl E Matthes Sr. c.1970

The Local History & Genealogy Department of the Harrison County Library System is currently showing an exhibit on the works of Carl E. Matthes, Sr. (1896-1972).  The exhibit features many newspaper clippings,  photographs, and original plans from both Matthes’ independent practice and his work with the firm of Landry & Matthes.  MissPres has several posts about Matthes, who was among the founders of the Mississippi AIA. This exhibit gives insight to Matthes’ life in Biloxi alongside several original plans & drawings of Biloxi landmarks both standing and lost that were his designs.

The exhibit is only up through the end of the week, so hurry down to Biloxi and take in this excellent exhibit on one of the “founding generation” of Mississippi architects.

  1. Is the firm still in practice? If so they must be the longest in continuing practice.
