I notice from this picture that the formal name of Belzoni’s great burger and malt shop is “The Varsity Restaurant,” but like all icons, it’s real name is simply “The Varsity.” Notice the interesting sliding screens on the windows. Next time you’re headed up Highway 49, take a right turn on 1st Street (Hwy 7) and grab a shake or malt, burger, fries, the works. Be sure to check out the nearby Freedom Trail marker for George Lee at Green Grove Baptist Church.

Love this place! Ate there all the time during duck season back in the day.
