The White House Hotel in Biloxi is a bustle of activity these days, as workers plant flowers, lay grass, install railings around the pool and put the finishing touches on the Grand Lady of the Gulf as she gets ready for her grand reopening early next month. A great excuse to come to Biloxi and celebrate the rebirth of this one-endangered historic place will be the City of Biloxi’s 2o14 Preservation Awards on Thursday, August 7 at 5:30, which will include a tour of the hotel. I hope to see you there as we raise a glass to this storied building’s past and the wonderful times yet to come.

I remember some restoration work going on back in the 1990s. I thought the money ran out, and after Katrina, I thought the place was doomed. Nice to know someone decided to keep up the work, though.
