Holmes County State Park was the 6th of 10 state parks in Mississippi developed by the Civilian Conservations Corps. Samp # 4429 began the park in 1935 and it opened in 1939 with six cabins and the park manager’s residence. Other buildings were added later, including pavilions, one of which is pictured above. The pavilion was not part of the original CCC construction at Holmes. Like many of the buildings, bridges, and developments completed under the various New Deal programs, it is always a pleasure to see one not only remaining, but still used and serving a purpose.
