That’s a radio tower, I believe. Possibly shortwave to communicate with boats and ships?

It’s actually the old WLOX tv and radio broadcast tower. The WLOX tv studios used to be located inside the Buena Vista. I’m not sure what year exactly WLOX moved to Debuys road but it was after hurricane Camille.
The sun herald had an article with lots of pictures of coast hotels including plenty of the Buena Vista. Even some of the 1991 fire.

I am so glad that I discovered this article. I have been trying for years to remember which hotel WLOX studios were in. I was in the Air Force, ststioned at Keesler, in Biloxi. I worked as a part time announcer at WLOX radio in this hotel. I was discharged in December of 1968. I was and still am horrified when I read about hurricane Camille.

Thank you for sharing these! That pool was awesome to any kid or adult! Any idea when the pictures were made?

Most likely around 1960 plus or minus. Lots of “Mirrochrome” postcard scenes of Mississippi were published then.

Thank you for comments about WLOX TV and radio studios in the Buena Vista Hotel. I have been trying for years to remember which hotel the studios were in. I was stationed at Keesler AFB in the late 60’s and worked at WLOX as a part time announcer, until my discharge in December of 1968. I still am horrified to read about Hurricane Camile, 8 months after I left the beautiful Biloxi, Mississippi area.

It was good to see the BV again .I used to work there at the front desk in the 70’s. Many wonderful memories of Pete Fountain and HAlf Fast staying there during Mardi Gras

My memories of the Buena Vista date back to 1950 when I was taking my radar operator training at Keesler and a few visits to the hotel and the restaurant that was located at the top of the hotel and was built like a ship and gave a great view of the Gulf. We used to use the restroom to change into our bathing suits to take a dip in the water and the beautiful beach was a great sight to see!

I lived in the Buena Vista as a kid in the late 79 and 80 maybe even later. My mother ran the restaurant. we had and apartment on the 4th floor. I was 4 or so but can remember a lot about it. Have a pile of pictures from inside the hotel.

Our annual trip to the BV was the highlight of my year — circa late 50’s. I’ll never forget the swim island in the pool.
