Some exciting news for one of our 10 Most Endangered Historic Places-on January 17, the Mississippi Department of Archives and History designated Prospect Hill as a Mississippi Landmark and awarded the Archaeological Conservancy a $50,000 grant to repair the roof and stabilize the building. Jessica Crawford with the Conservancy is over the moon about this bright new chapter in Prospect Hill’s future and is working with friends to host a spring fundraiser to raise the additional funds needed to stabilize the building. This work will be made easier thanks to the Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association, which recently restored electrical service to the property. For those of you dedicated preservationists who might be interested in a little fixer-upper, Prospect Hill is on the market for $58,000. As someone who looked at this property as a possible purchase, I am thrilled to see money appropriated to repair the roof. This will keep it on its feet until the right buyer comes along.
