Well, this week has gotten away from me, even with Tom doing most of the blogging, so I don’t have time for a full news roundup. But I wanted to make sure to recognize the passing of a building that I really loved but whose chance at life ran out some time ago. As we’ve posted a few times before (6-4-09 and 9-11-09), the old First Baptist Church in Natchez received a demolition permit because of its extreme deterioration earlier this year, and last week the demolition began, according to the Natchez Democrat. On Monday, October 26, the building finally came down.
In a somewhat related note, Arlington’s owner has finally been served notice by the City of Natchez that his property has been declared to be in the midst of demolition by neglect and that he must either make repairs or the City will take action to do so at his expense. Maybe Arlington can avoid the same fate as First Baptist.
