Two Videos to Start Your Week

JRGordon decided to take President’s Day off from the weekly news roundup, but luckily MissPreser Blake Wintory of Lakeport Plantation sent links to two YouTube videos (or are they called digital shorts nowdays?) that I think everyone will find worth watching.

Recently P. Allen Smith of the PBS show P. Allen Smith’s Garden Home visited both Lakeport Plantation on the River in Arkansas and Longwood in Natchez, and he made these videos introducing viewers to both places. The Longwood video is a fairly straight re-telling of the Longwood story, which of course is a great story. The (second) video about Lakeport though shows attention to details like scale and mouldings that help educate the viewer about the finer points of Greek Revival, antebellum, Southern architecture. If you’re unlucky enough to actually have to work on President’s Day, sit back for a few minutes with these videos and tell your boss you’re watching a webinar. Enjoy!

  1. The videos are part of Smith’s new Youtube channel, eHow Home. http://www.youtube.com/ehowhome
There is at least one more recent video with a Natchez connection–it’s on antiques.
